Alt+Space from anywhere
One hotkey and Waey floats over your active window. No app switching, no alt-tabbing, no breaking your focus.
Runs on every platform
Windows, Mac, and Linux with the same experience. Your whole team can use it no matter what machine they are on.
Remembers your context
Waey keeps your conversation history across sessions. Pick up right where you left off without repeating yourself to the AI.
Smart region capture
Draw a box on anything on screen and Waey figures out if it is a button, a code block, a chart, or a form. Context, not just pixels.
Bring your own AI model
Add any provider with a name and API key. Label them 'claude-fast' or 'local-llama' and switch between them right from the overlay.
Custom personas and shortcuts
Tell Waey to always respond in Arabic, act as a senior code reviewer, or anything else. Your rules are saved and ready every session.
We started from the same frustration.
Every AI interaction drains 90 seconds before the model even starts thinking. Screenshot, switch tabs, paste, explain, wait, copy back. That loop kills focus and kills speed.
Waey stays at the edge of your screen, always ready. One key press and your question is answered before you lose your train of thought.
Plug in any model you already use:
Four keys. That is it.
| Alt + Space | Opens the Waey overlay on top of your active window. Reads every visible button, field, and label automatically so you never have to explain what you are looking at. |
| Ctrl + Space | Smart region select. Drag a rectangle anywhere on screen and Waey captures the pixels and identifies the UI elements inside. Great for charts, code blocks, and dialogs. |
| Esc | Cancel instantly. Stops a streaming response, exits region-select mode, or closes the overlay. Your conversation history stays intact. |
| Enter | Send your message. Use Shift+Enter to add a line break without sending. |
Every hotkey is rebindable from the settings panel.
Your screen stays yours.
Waey captures your screen only when you press the hotkey. No background monitoring, no cloud sync, no telemetry. Your data goes only to the AI provider you chose.
| Background screen recording | ✕ Never |
| Data stored on Waey servers | ✕ None |
| Screen capture on hotkey | ✋ On demand only |
| Conversation history | ✓ Local only |
| API keys | ✓ Stored on device |
The practical questions.
Yes. Waey is bring-your-own-key. You add any provider (OpenRouter, OpenAI, Ollama, etc.) from the Settings panel and paste your API key there. Your key is stored locally on your device and never leaves it.
Never. Waey only captures a single screenshot at the moment you press Alt+Space or Ctrl+Space. There is no background recording, no continuous monitoring, and no camera access of any kind.
Any model that speaks the OpenAI API format, which is almost all of them. That includes Claude, GPT-4o, Gemini, Groq, DeepSeek, Mistral, local Ollama models, and anything behind OpenRouter. If it has an API endpoint, Waey can use it.
Everything, conversations, providers, personas, and settings, is stored in a local SQLite database on your machine. Waey has no server, no account, and no cloud sync. Uninstalling the app removes all data.
Yes. Waey is MIT-licensed, which means you can use it, modify it, and distribute it freely, even in commercial projects. The full source code lives on GitHub. The only cost is the API usage you pay directly to your chosen AI provider.
Hi, I am Khaled.
I am a developer who got tired of interrupting my flow just to paste a screenshot into a chat window. Waey is what I built for myself, and now it is open source for everyone. If it saves you five minutes a day, I am happy. Contributions and ideas are always welcome
